We commissioned Woodway to install a ceiling in the top floor of our 2-storey cottage at 3 Amber Way, San Michel, Noordhoek.
This was a complex and difficult undertaking due to the L-shaped plan of the cottage, the high pitch of roof with exposed joists and rafters. We considered various types of ceiling but wanted to maintain the ‘cottage feel’. Tygue Townsend, owner of Woodway, recommended Isoboard sheets with a tongue and groove finish.
Integral to the project, we had to allow for any future thatch repairs which would be executed from the exterior; this necessitated leaving a minimum 50mm gap between underside of thatch and the new ceiling as agreed with Jason Lucas Master Thatcher’s.
With none of the existing roof beams being identical in size (girth) or shape meant that each ‘frame’ section (ie between rafters) had to be individually measured, levelled and the Isoboard installed at the same level and to match the pattern of the neighbouring panel; intricate and time consuming.
The duration of the project was one month and included the sanding and sealing of the wooden floors upstairs. The project was finished on time with no cost over-runs. Snagging on completion, was discussed, managed and executed efficiently and with no delays as instructed.
The team were well-managed, communicated with consistently and treated with respect under the hands-on guidance of Tygue Townsend.
Tygue was open to questioning as well as our suggestions which established a good working relationship from the start. This was a complex job requiring a dedicated, specialist team and I would have no hesitation in recommending Woodway.
